Still proudly independent, relationships are one of Corney & Barrow’s key values and remain at the heart of everything the company does. Starting from one small shop on Old Broad Street, its offices are now based in London, Leeds, Edinburgh, Hong Kong, Singapore and Shanghai, with two shops in Newmarket and Ayr.
This presence throughout the UK in particular, allows C&B to offer local support on a national level; meaning they can better understand each customer’s individual needs.
Corney & Barrow seeks to buy wines with a certain star quality, wines which are leading examples of their region, varietal, or price-point. This is not about the most expensive or the cheapest. The goal is to benchmark examples at a price that is fair to both the producer and the customer – this is crucial. Every wine in the portfolio is sourced for a reason. Having a tight range allows C&B to build close relationships with producers and, as a result, these growers will develop a closer rapport with the end consumer too. It is collaborative from all sides.
C&B sees itself as an extension of their producers in the marketplace, helping them forge reputations throughout the UK and Asia. This can only be achieved by working with winemakers who share the same core values and philosophy.
Corney & Barrow was the first wine merchant to establish a wine broking business in the UK. Its range now includes the highest quality wines from many of the world’s most sort after producers, all with impeccable provenance. Having many strings to their bow, enables C&B to cover a huge range of needs from everyday drinking to offering fine wines from top estates such as Petrus and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.
